ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

High-altitude lakes are sensitive ecosystems, recognized for their high cultural and environmental value. Located at the head of watersheds and subject to extreme climatic conditions,
their functioning is still poorly understood. In the French Alps alone, there are almost 600 high-altitude lakes. Recent studies show that these lakes do not quite live up to the image of "unspoilt nature" that is generally attributed to them, and are subject to both global and local human influences. High-altitude lakes play a watchdog role with regard to changing environmental conditions such as biodiversity erosion, climate change and contaminant dispersion. Let's embark on a tour of high-altitude lakes to better understand their academics, their functioning and their future.
