ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

Well-being, which could be likened to happiness or quality of life, is a priori a non-legal concept. However, many agree that legal mechanisms such as compensation for damage, the elimination of neighborhood problems, environmental law and subjective rights such as the right to privacy or the right to one's own image, all pursue the same goal: improving people's well-being. Although the right to well-being does not exist as such, it is becoming a normality aimed at preserving a state of well-being (elimination of various nuisances, right to peace and quiet, right to a quality living environment, etc.), but also at combating ill-being (right to mental health, support for the elderly and the sick). Are these the beginnings of the forthcoming affirmation in our law of a right to well-being that can be invoked by all? How effective would this be? What would be its limits?
