Amphis Pour Tous - Discovering dark matter

october 7, 2021 6:00 PM - october 7, 2021 7:00 PM

The lecture "À la découverte de la matière noire", presented by Francesca Calore, CNRS research fellow at the Laboratoire d'Annecy de Physique Théorique (LAPTH), UFR Sciences et Montagne, will take place on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at 6pm at the Turbine Sciences in Cran-Gevrier (entrance via Le Cinéma la Turbine), as part of the Fête de la Science 2021.

It will also be held :

  • Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at 6pm in Chambéry (as part of the Fête de la Science 2021)
  • Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at 5 p.m. in Archamps

Conferences will take place subject to health conditions linked to the Coronovirus epidemic (COVID-19) and in compliance with the safety instructions in force at the venue hosting the event.

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

The nature of dark matter is one of the great mysteries of contemporary physics. Dark matter exists, but what is its fundamental nature? The particles of which it is made are likely to produce high-energy photons and charged particles at rates detectable by current telescopes. Through so-called indirect research, we hope to detect the flux of stable species produced by dark matter in excess of the astrophysical background already present. The discovery of such a signal would make it possible to study the properties of the particles making up dark matter for the first time. How are scientists trying to reveal dark matter in the universe? What are the current results and future challenges?
