The documentary "Patagonia, the forgotten island", which recounts the life of the "Ultima Patagonia 2017" expedition under the logistical direction of Bernard Tourte and the scientific direction of Richard Maire (CNRS and Université de Bordeaux) and Stéphane Jaillet (CNRS-Université de Savoie Mont Blanc), will be previewed at the Salle du Prérard in Chamoux sur Gelon, on Saturday December 16 at 8pm (free admission).
Stéphane Jaillet, CNRS research engineer at USMB's Environnements, Dynamiques et Territoires de la Montagne (EDYTEM) laboratory, will be present at the screening to discuss this extraordinary scientific expedition.
about the film
The "Ultima Patagonia" expedition, which took place in 2017 in the northern part of Madre de Dios Island, located in southern Chile, enabled unprecedented geographical and scientific investigations in an unknown and hostile limestone island domain of great beauty. Led by a team of speleologists, archaeologists, biologists, hydrologists, anthropologists, botanists and, for the most part, divers, this hydrographic and cartographic mission, which took two years to prepare, revealed a piece of history from the past that leaves you breathless.
This year, the documentary was awarded the prize for best human adventure film at the International Scientific Exploration Film Festival in La Ciotat, the Grand Prix du Jury at the What a Trip Festival in Montpellier, the Prix du Public at the Explore Image Festival in Nice, and the Toison d'Or de l'aventure in Dijon.
