Café Scientifique - In search of ET: astronomers, exoplanets... and the latest news from the sky

october 11, 2018 8:00 PM - october 11, 2018 22:00

On Thursday, October 11, 2018, the Science-Actions association invites you to discover the latest news from the skies and discuss all these issues with top researchers in the field. The Café Scientifique "In search of ET: astronomers, exoplanets... and the latest news from the sky" will be held at Le Beaujolais restaurant in Chambéry, starting at 8pm.

"In search of ET: astronomers, exoplanets... and the latest news from the skies"

Even if light pollution is making the sky increasingly difficult to observe for everyone, progress in professional astronomy and astrophysics is impressive. Extraordinary discoveries follow one another in rapid succession, continually improving our knowledge of the universe. To cite just a few of the many examples, there are countless discoveries of planets orbiting other stars (exoplanets), some of which we can now visualize, whereas just a few years ago we could only indirectly observe their presence. A second example is the remnant of luminous radiation that was emitted some time after the creation of the universe in which we live, i.e. after the Big Bang. Its precise mapping brings us ever closer to these ultimate instants. Last but not least, the experimental demonstration of gravitational waves has certainly opened the way to a new branch of astronomy, one that is no longer based on the observation of light, but on the deformation of space. Nevertheless, despite all this progress, there are still a number of misunderstood phenomena to be explained by new theories to be developed, such as the masses and energies that we are unable to observe, and which are nicknamed dark masses and energies, or the origin of life on Earth, which we are looking for in comets, among other things.

SCIENTIFIC CAFÉS

The Cafés Scientifiques (or "Cafés Sciences et Citoyen, Débat") offer the general public the chance to debate, in a convivial atmosphere, with experts, researchers and professionals, on a wide range of subjects, many of them topical. They are organized by the association Science Actions, in collaboration with :
