Lecture series - Democracy in question #1

october 11, 2017 2:30 pm - october 11, 2017 16:30

TheUFR Lettres, Langues et Sciences Humaines of the USMB is organizing a new series of conferences entitled "La démocratie en questions". At a time when democracy has regained a central place in public discussion, both as a result of challenges to its principle and of practical experiments that are making a point of going beyond it, it seems appropriate to open up a space for discussion on this theme, which has become as inescapable as it is difficult to grasp. The ambition of this cycle lies in the desire to question, in the company of leading voices or members of the intellectual succession, the meaning, status and content of a term whose extensive use has ended up concealing its depth.

For this first meeting, which will take place on Wednesday, October 11, 2017, from 2:30 to 4:30 pm, at the USMB President's Officethe guest will be Marcel Gauchet, philosopher and historian, director of studies emeritus at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), member of the Centre d'Études Sociologiques et Politiques Raymond Aron (CESPRA), editor-in-chief of the review "le Débat", and author of numerous books: he has just completed his reflection on the advent of democracy by publishing this year "Le nouveau monde".
