Festival "Plus d'égalité" - [CANCELLED] Meeting with author Olivia Elkaim

March 8, 2018 12:00 - March 8th 2018 14:00

From March 8 to April 5, the "Plus d'égalité" (More Equality) Festival will take place on theUniversité Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB) campuses, and in partner venues. Taking the time to ask questions, accepting confrontation, imagining solutions, but above all thinking together and debating together around questions of equality, that's the aim of the different events of this festival. The USMB offers conferences, round-table discussions and encounters with artists and specialists, who will question our representations of relations between women and men.

On Thursday, March 8, at 12 p.m., Olivia Elkaim will meet USMB students and discuss her novel, "Je suis une Jeanne Hébuterne", in which the author gives a voice to the woman who was Modigliani's last love. The meeting will take place in Amphi 11000 on the Chambéry/Jacob-Bellecombette campus. Free admission.

The novel "Je suis Jeanne Hébuterne"

If everyone knows Amedeo Modigliani, who really knows Jeanne Hébuterne, his last companion? Yet she was the master's model and was an artist herself. A few photos of her remain and a few works (impossible to find because they are owned by the family) but the story of Jeanne Hébuterne has faded behind the famous Italian. Olivia Elkaim, with great finesse and talent, has been able to give back a place to the woman, the artist and the lover that she was.

Jeanne Hébuterne was a young girl when, in 1916, she met Amedeo Modigliani. Fifteen years his senior, he was a "cursed" artist, living in poverty in Montparnasse. She wants to emancipate herself from her parents and brother, and become a painter too. They fall madly in love. From Paris to Nice – where they fled the fighting of the First World War – they defied good morals and family prohibitions. But their incandescent love leads them to the brink of madness.
