OSUG Grand Seminar - "Historical approaches to hazards and interdisciplinary dialogue".

November 30, 2023 2:00 PM - November 30, 2023 4:00 PM

Thursdaythursday november 30th at 2pm, the Environnements, Dynamiques et Territoires de Montagne (EDYTEM) laboratory welcomes Emmanuel Garnier, historian and CNRS research director at the Chrono-Environnement Laboratory of the Université de France-Comté, for a talk entitled "Approche historique des aléas et dialogue interdisciplinaire" ("Historical approach to hazards and interdisciplinary dialogue"). The conference will be held in the amphitheatre of Building 3 (Pôle Montagne, 5 bd de la Mer Caspienne) on the Bourget-du-Lac campus. The event is also available by videoconference.

The talk will focus on hydrometeors and geological hazards (earthquakes, mountain collapses and continental tsunamis) over the last millennium. Following a critical presentation of the exceptionally rich corpus of documentation, which is often little-known to non-HSS researchers, the talk will address not only the frequency and intensity of these phenomena, but also the methodological modalities of the necessary dialogue between historians and environmental science researchers, using the example of the international IRN RISCDIS network.

Pre-register for the event(open to USMB staff and students, subject to availability)

This conference is organized as part of the major seminars organized by the laboratories of the OSUG federation (of which EDYTEM is a member). These events feature renowned scientific guests throughout the year, on subjects that cut across OSUG's scientific themes.
