DELAYED - Lunch Seminar FEAST - "Risk and mountaineering. A philosophical reflection on Homo alpinus?"

On Monday March 23, 2020, the FEAST - Interreg Alcotra project team, led byUniversité Savoie Mont Blanc, will welcome Alain Ghersen for a Lunch Seminar on "Risk and mountaineering. A philosophical reflection on Homo alpinus".

The seminar will be held from 12:00 to 13:30 in room 10 011 of building 10 on the Jacob-Bellecombette campus.

The event has been postponed to a later date, to be announced as soon as possible.

About the Lunch Seminar

At a time when mountaineering is often highlighted by the media only in terms of tragedy or exploit, as Alain Ghersen puts it, "risk is omnipresent in mountaineering, and whether we deny it or exalt it, it raises questions".

Author of numerous solo exploits in the Mont-Blanc massif in the 80s and 90s, in 2016 Alain Ghersen published the essay "Risque et alpinisme - Réflexion philosophique sur l'Homo alpinus". From the dual perspective of mountaineer and philosopher, he analyzes the links between risk and mountaineering. He asks: "What does this figure of Homo alpinus tell us about modern man as a being who seeks to forge a singular path between and with the constraints that make up his environment?
