On Friday, November 23, 2018, Edem N'TSOUKPOE, a specialist in energy and process engineering at the Laboratoire d'Optimisation de la Conception et Ingénierie de l'Environnement (LOCIE) atUniversité Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB), will defend his habilitation to direct research (HDR) around his work "Solar thermal energy: production, use and rationalization of management".

The defense will take place at 10:30 a .m. in room C105, at Polytech Annecy-Chambéry, on the Bourget-du-Lac campus .

SUMMARY

This thesis provides an overview of my research activities over the last ten years, and highlights some original results concerning solar heat storage, based on theoretical and experimental analyses. It reflects a diversity of themes and issues underlying the rational exploitation of solar thermal energy when considering low-temperature thermal storage in the form of chemical potential or high-temperature thermal storage in the form of sensible heat. The various thermal storage applications I've had the good fortune to work on have led me to raise the issue of the evaluation criteria for thermochemical or sorption storage processes, by raising the very question of the nature of these processes through theoretical and experimental analysis. This has led me to focus on the development of strategies for improving the performance of these processes. In any case, thermochemical storage processes cannot be developed without taking into account the most realistic potential availability of the various resources required for their implementation, as well as the associated constraints. I then turned my attention to the provision of sustainable energy services in Africa, taking greater account of local needs and potential. The few illustrations I have presented show that this is a favorable context for the development of innovative concepts.
