Load shedding, scheduled power cuts at USMB

Following government announcements, in the event of tension on the power grid, load shedding measures organized by the Réseau de Transport d'Électricité (RTE) may take place from the start of 2023. They will be carried out by sector or district. On this page, you'll find details of howuniversité Savoie Mont Blanc will organize itself in the event of a power cut to its buildings, and how the situation will be monitored.

What is load shedding?

Load shedding is a voluntary, momentary interruption in the supply of electricity to a part of the power grid. This measure is designed to restore the balance between electricity injected into the grid and electricity drawn from it.

What impact will this have on the USMB?

If a University site is affected by a load shedding incident, it will automatically be closed to all (students, staff, external persons and structures), with the exception of staff required for business continuity. In such a case, the university's management has decided on the composition of an on-site team for each site, comprising at the very least the site coordinator, staff from DN and the property management department, and even, depending on the situation, the person in charge of a sensitive facility under surveillance).
