March 26 / 17 h 00 min - 19 h 00 min
Free

As part of the LAPP and LAPTh Wednesdays, the Laboratoire d'Annecy de Physique des Particules (LAPP) and the Laboratoire d'Annecy-le-Vieux de Physique Théorique ( Annecy-le-Vieux Laboratory of Theoretical Physics (LAPTh) are organizing a conference entitled " How Artificial Intelligence can detect gamma rays from the edge of the Universe ", to be held on Wednesday March 26, 2025 from 6 to 7 pm at the LAPP premises on the Annecy campus.

This conference will be presented by Sami Caroff, researcher at LAPP, and Thomas Vuillaume, data scientist at LAPP. It will be possible to visit the laboratory before the lecture, from 5pm, for privileged exchanges with the scientists.

About tours

Prior to the conference, from 5 p.m., interested parties will be able to visit the MUST computing center, as well as the EUTOPIA Discovery Space, and chat with LAPP and LAPTh scientists. For tours of the MUST mesocenter, please arrive before 5.20 p.m.

About the conference

In this two-part presentation, the two scientists will explore gamma-ray astronomy, its major challenges and its key role in improving our understanding of the Universe and its fundamental laws. They will explain how Cherenkov imaging telescopes work, and highlight the essential role of artificial intelligence, which is a central pillar in optimizing their performance.

About LAPP and LAPTh Wednesdays

In 2024-2025, following the success of previous events, LAPP is organizing free monthly events: LAPP Wednesdays and LAPTh Wednesdays.

One Wednesday a month, LAPP scientists invite you to discover a facet of research at a free event open to all. Lectures, tours, discussions, workshops... Several formats accessible to all audiences will be offered throughout the year.
