Amphi Pour Tous Conference - "The wolf, the crab and the stadium: fables of fatigue
January 12 / 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Thursday, January 12Baptiste MOREL-PRIEUR, lecturer at the Laboratoire Interuniversitaire de Biologie de la Motricité (LIBM), invites you to a conference "The wolf, the crab and the stadium: fables of fatigue".. The conference will be held at 6:30 pm at the Turbine (entrance by the cinema La Turbine), rue de l'Arlequin Cran-Gevrier, in Annecy.
It will also be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at 6:00 pm in Chambéry.
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
The most athletic among you went for a run last Sunday. Without much motivation, the pace was probably reasonable, very reasonable, to the point that you were able to maintain that speed without difficulty. What would have happened if you had decided to run faster? Let's speed up a bit. Not much more is happening. A little more? Ouch, you have just exceeded your critical speed, fatigue sets in. This time, your heart is racing, your ventilation is accelerating, your time is running out. You only have a few minutes left before you have to stop to catch your breath and your spirits. This barrier speed is a central characteristic of human and animal locomotion. It is at the heart of the strategy of wolf packs stalking prey, of the fatigue of cancer patients and even of the training of Olympic champions. There is no point in running (fast), you have to control your pace.
