The conference " Ocean waves: hope for renewable energy or fear of rising waters? " will be presented by Christophe LACAVE & Walter BOSCHERIboth research professors at the Laboratoire de Mathématiques (LAMA), UFR Sciences et Montagne, at the presidency ofuniversité Savoie Mont Blanc, 27 rue Marcoz73000 Chambéry, as part of the Fête de la Science 2024, on October 8 at 6pm.
This conference will be preceded by the inauguration of the 2024-2025 Amphis Pour Tous season at 5:15pm. To mark the occasion, members of the Laboratoire de Mathématiques (LAMA) will be on hand to present mathematical activities. The season will then be launched by :

The ocean, a vast, mysterious and infinite expanse of water, has always exerted a profound fascination on the human mind. From the first daring maritime voyages to contemporary explorations of the seabed, passion for the oceans has played a crucial role in the development of human society. While offshore renewable energy raises many hopes for decarbonization, its impact on coastlines is also feared in a context of rising oceans. Although the mathematical equations associated with waves have been known since the 19th century, work is still in progress to meet these new challenges.
