SCREENING : THE INFO POINT WITH JUSTINE, STUDENT HEALTH RELAY

As young adults, our lives can get very hectic. We can quickly find ourselves at a loss when it comes to STIs, or even find it difficult to book an appointment for a screening. That's why the Student Health Service organizes screening sessions right on our campuses!

What is an STI (sexually transmitted infection)?
These are infections transmitted mainly during sexual intercourse. There are many viruses and bacteria that can be transmitted in this way.

Why get tested?
To protect yourself, because some STIs can be very dangerous, even though they are sometimes very easy to treat.
To protect others, because when it comes to sex, it's more fun to have fun if you take care of yourself and the people you're having fun with! What's more, some STIs are asymptomatic, meaning you can be a carrier without knowing it.

Why do it on your campus?
Because it's convenient, fast and personalized. You'll start with a brief interview with a professional who will discuss your screening needs with you. Anonymity guaranteed: all professionals present are bound by medical confidentiality. And it's free!

When should a general screening be carried out?
As early as 7 days after taking a risk, you can detect the presence of the first STI, such as gonorrhea. However, you'll need to wait 3 months after taking a risk to make sure you're not carrying HIV. It's recommended that you get tested once a year if you change partners little or not at all. If you have more than one partner, you should be tested every 3 months.
