\"The Cartan mean of positive definite matrices \"\r\n\r\nSummary: the talk will describe the notion of a \"geometric mean\" of \r\npositive definite matrices. For two such matrices such a mean was \r\nstudied in the physics, electrical engineering, and matrix theory \r\nliterature for over four decades. For more than two of them this has \r\nbeen done more recently combining ideas from Riemannian geometry and \r\nmatrix analysis.
