Promoting tourism in the cross-border area: workshops with players from the Franco-Swiss area

December 5, 2019 1:00 PM - December 5th 2019 18:00

For over three years,Université Savoie Mont Blanc 's Pôle Tourisme Montagne Inventive and the Haute École Spécialisée de Suisse Occidentale, HES-SO Valais (HES-SO VALAIS) have been working together as part of the " TRANSFRONTOUR " Interreg France-Switzerland project, which aims to structure networks of tourism players in the Franco-Swiss cross-border area, enabling them to diversify their offer and develop new, innovative services in response to new customer expectations.

The project was marked by several stages, including a large-scale scientific survey of the expectations of different customer groups in the Franco-Swiss cross-border zone(business, four-season leisure) and of the obstacles and levers to collaborative working, based on an analysis of various tourism networks: Only Lyon, Le Voyage à Nantes, Valais excellence, Suisse mobile, Vignobles et découvertes, Oenotourisme Vaud.

A Service Design Center has been set up, drawing on the design skills of the HES-SO and the multi-disciplinary skills of the USMB, around innovative tools and methods for networking players. Now that the TRANSFRONTOUR program is coming to an end, it's time to put it into practice in the field, with the implementation of cross-border tourism offers. After extensive fieldwork in the Monts de Genève area, experts from the Centre de design des services franco-suisse have now turned their attention to the Thonon-Évian-Lausanne region.

A painstaking analysis of resources and a major phase of field interviews with local professionals enabled us to identify what the area had to offer, and to gain a better understanding of its players (perceptions of the area's development, tourism collaboration, expectations and wishes, etc.). Now it's time to define innovative offers in co-creation mode with members of the Franco-Swiss Service Design Centre and local tourism players.
