Support

Student success

Student success is a highly relative notion, specific to each individual. Indicators exist to quantify this success, but the success of a student's academic career depends primarily on the personal objectives he or she has set. It's with this in mind that we've been thinking about developing individualized student support.

Getting students to succeed means meeting their specific needs. Is it: average grades, good marks, honors? A diploma? Or is it to have a faultless course, without repeating a year?

Student success has many facets:

  • understand your difficulties and know how to ask for help
  • open up to new cultures, activities and opportunities
  • support or participate in community life
  • integrated into the student community
  • have had their first work experience placement or found a student job
  • be committed and fulfilled during their university career

There is therefore no single definition of student success, but rather a multitude of responses depending on the expectations, requirements, objectives and feelings of each individual.

Student success therefore includes academic and educational success, as well as personal and professional success, fueled by personal commitment.

Research Managers

The Director of Studies is in charge of each Bachelor's degree program, and coordinates a team of teachers. The Director of Studies is responsible for a number of tasks designed to enhance students' personal and professional success. He or she supervises teaching activities and monitors all aspects of the student's education, in particular :

  • steering the referent teacher system at the level of the specialization
  • drawing up a specific teaching contract for students following a particular pathway
  • implementation of an assessment of the support systems set up by the company
  • carry out its mission in close collaboration with student success coaches
  • work in coordination with other study managers to capitalize on best practices and offer diversified career paths

Student Success Coach

Working closely with the directors of studies, the student success advisor works directly with each degree program to contact students who have expressed a need for support.

Student Success Counsellors and Directors of Studies work together to find an appropriate solution for the students concerned. The student success advisor sets up a personalized support and follow-up plan, mobilizing all student support services.

Main tasks of the Student Success Coach :

  • involve students in the construction of their study and career plans
  • offer individualized follow-up to identify the obstacles to their success and suggest possible solutions
  • participate in license development boards
