Geography Aggregation

One of the last "provincial" preparations

As well as preparing students for the CAPES exam, for which the results are convincing (30-50% of those eligible and admitted in the Grenoble Academy), the Geography & Planning Department of the Université Savoie Mont-Blanc has been preparing students for the Agrégation externe de géographie exam since 1995. The number of students has always been kept to a minimum, enabling us to keep pace with the demands of the exam and provide intensive training for our candidates.

Years of involvement in teaching competitions

Since the reorganization of the CAPES and its mastérisation, the academic year is organized as follows:

  • History course at Jacob (CAPES + Agrégations) with the 3 written questions for the CAPES on Tuesdays (~ 40 h per question)
  • Geography courses in Jacob (CAPES + Agrégations) with the 3 CAPES questions on Thursdays (30 to 50 h per question)
  • classes on the specific subject of the Agrégation de Géographie on Mondays (sessions of 2 to 5 hours for a total of 25 hours): nature as a geographical object; representing space; mobility; sustainable development, etc.
  • course (20h) on the common history question(s) Agrégations de Géographie / d'histoire as part of a partnership between Université Savoie Mont Blanc / Université Grenoble Alpes (academic preparation centers for the agrégations)
  • regular work on cards from January to June: " j'ai rendez-vous avec la carte " every Friday (5pm-6pm)

Regular written and on-the-job training

  • A continuous" agrégation blanche A test on each question every week (Friday or Saturday) from the beginning of October to the end of December (including the portfolio tests and the geography question specific to the agrégation program).
  • Two 2-day mock CAPES exams in January and February
  • A agrégation blanche in the2nd half of February with 4 consecutive tests

Unparalleled oral preparation

  • 10 days after the written exams, start of oral preparation (adapted according to candidates' requests and availability), until the departure of those eligible for the oral exams in Paris.
  • 10 to 16 sessions of extra-curricular lessons per year for 2 to 5 candidates (8 to 15 lessons each)
  • of commentaries on historical documents on the two program questions (3 to 6 passages each)
  • visit commentaries on geographical documents with 5 different teachers (5 to 8 passages each)

Preparers who know competition juries

Our geography teachers have all sat on juries for written and oral exams, including the ENS Lyon entrance exam, the CAPES in history-geography, the agrégation interne d'histoire-géographie, the agrégation externe d'histoire and the agrégation externe de géographie. Their preparation for the written and oral exams draws on their in-depth knowledge of the expectations of the juries.

Constant, regular follow-up

Regular meetings (at least every two months), in addition to discussions at the end of the various courses, enable candidates for the agrégation externe to be monitored on a regular basis, allowing them to deal with moments of doubt or discouragement, and to take stock of the progress of their preparation.

The advantages of small-scale preparation

Candidates can work in tight, efficient groups, regularly proposing plans and essays on a variety of subjects, and benefit from a maximum number of oral passages before eligibility.

The results

With an eligibility rate of 52% and an admission rate of 25%,
this preparation is second to none.
