Characterization of hyperelastic materials for soft robotics

(reserved for 4th-year Polytech Annecy-Chambéry students)

Period, duration

May-July 2022, 2 months

Profile required

4th year Mechanics and Materials engineering student

Bonus

3.90/h (standard)

Location

Annecy-le-vieux ; Maison de la mécatronique ; Symme laboratory

Subject

This internship is in support of a project at the SYMME laboratory in the field of medical simulators: CANAL (Colorectal exAmiNation trAining simuLator). The aim is to continue the initial work, which has already been published: L. Marechal, P. Balland, L. Lindenroth, F. Petrou, C. Kontovounisios and F. Bello, "Towards a Common Framework and Database of Materials for Soft Robotics", Soft Robotics, June 2020.

The work will focus on the mechanical characterization of elastic polymeric materials and specifically on the modeling of the Mullins effect in these elastomers.
modeling the Mullins effect in these elastomers. Tensile tests will be carried out. It is envisaged to use an optical extensometry system. The trainee will receive an academics course on parameter determination using optimization algorithms to develop his/her skills.

Job description:
- Implementation of elastic polymer materials and creation of test specimens.
- Tensile tests using an optical system to measure strain.
- Implementation of cyclic tensile tests.
- Data analysis and characterization with hyperelastic models.
- Mechanical design of a specific small test bench, if required.
