University Diploma in French Studies

The Diplôme Universitaire d'Etudes Françaises (DUEF) is an intensive 200h semester academics based on French language courses covering the 6 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) from A1 to C2.
Open to all candidates with a diploma or degree equivalent to the French baccalauréat, it aims to introduce students to the French language and culture, but also, for intermediate to advanced levels, to prepare them for French university studies by combining language practice and gradual immersion in specific subjects.

As a academics diploma, the DUEF is offered to students enrolled in bilateral partnerships with foreign universities.

It earns 30 ECTS credits.

The courses are as follows (per semester/DUEF):

  • 180 hours of intensive French language courses (15 hours per week for 12 weeks)
    > Monday to Friday, 9am to 12pm
  • 2 themed workshops of 10h or 1 of 20h (2h extra per week for 10 weeks)
    > from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm, one day a week (day defined according to level on arrival)

  • Please note: the DUEF is only available to people with a valid title or diploma equivalent to the French baccalaureate (copy to be provided).Once you have completed the registration form, to finalize your registration you must send :
      • confirmation of payment of a deposit of 500€ for semester registration or 900€ for full-year registration. NB: full payment must be made if visa is required.
      • a copy of your ID or passport
      • a copy of your most recent diploma translated into French, required if the language is other than English or a Latin language(baccalauréat minimum = high school diploma or equivalent qualification required, or university degree)
      • birth certificate (non-EU nationals only)
      • a passport photo
      • if you are a refugee or asylum seeker, valid proof of refugee status
      • NB: Personal liability insurance is compulsory; the university declines all responsibility.

  • 1st semester: September 16 to December 20, 2024
    > 12 weeks (200 hours of classes) + 1 week of exams
    NB: vacation, 1 week: October 28 to November 1 (no classes)

 

  • 2nd semester: January 20 to April 25, 2025
    > 12 weeks (200h of classes) + 1 week of exams
    NB : vacations, 1 week: March 3 to 7 (no classes)

 

  • Price: €1800 per semester
    3500€ for an academic year (=registration for 2 semesters at the same time)

 

  • This fee includes :
    - 200 hours of lessons per semester
    -Registration for the Test de Connaissance du Français (TCF) for the general public (compulsory tests: oral and written comprehension)

    -Access to cultural and sporting activities organized by the USMB for its international students;
    -Access to university services such as the library, university restaurants, preventive medicine, etc.

 

  • This price does not include (non-exhaustive list):
    - Course textbook
    - Student Life Contribution (100€/year) required to obtain a student card/status
    - Accommodation, meals and any other personal expenses.
    - Compulsory personal liability insurance

 

Refugees and asylum seekers can benefit from a 50% discount on courses, on presentation of valid proof.
