Introducing CNFEDS

Center National de academics des Enseignants intervenant auprès des jeunes Déficients Sensoriels

France's only academics center to become a specialist teacher of young deaf or blind people in establishments or services run by the Ministry of Solidarity and Health.

For over 20 years in Chambéry, Savoie, the CNFEDS has been the only center in France to train specialist teachers in the medical-social sector working with young people with sensory impairments: hearing and sight. Recognized by both the French Ministry of Solidarity and Health and the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research, the CNFEDS provides academics adapted teaching by specialists in their field.

Heir to long-standing agreements between the Ministry of Solidarity and Health,Université Savoie Mont Blanc, associations managing establishments for the deaf and blind, and the Ministry of National Education, Higher Education and Research, the center emerged in 1998 as the Centre National de academics des Enseignants intervenant auprès des Jeunes Sourds (CNFEJS), thanks to the transfer toUniversité Savoie Mont Blanc of the skills of the GIP-CNFEJS (Groupement d'Intérêt Public entitled Centre National de academics des Enseignants intervenant auprès des Jeunes Sourds).

In September 2001, it became the Centre National de academics pour les Enseignants intervenant auprès des jeunes Déficients Sensoriels (CNFEDS) , incorporating training for the visually impaired.

Based in a region and département with a long history of caring for the deaf and blind, the CNFEDS bases its activities on the need to take into account, from the point of view of pedagogy and academics, the ever-changing ways in which sensory disabilities are compensated for.
