Approval for non-HDR

OR FOR NON-USMB MEMBERS

Members who hold a doctorate but are not habilitated may apply to the Cultures, Societies, Territories Doctoral School (Doctoral School CST) for ad hoc approval for supervising a thesis , under the conditions set out in article 16-2 of the Order of May 25, 2016:

The duties of thesis director or co-director can be carried out :

1° Professors and assimilated staff within the meaning of article 6 of decree no. 92-70 on the National Council of Universities and article 5 of decree no. 87-31 for health disciplines, or by teachers of equivalent rank who do not come under the Ministry of Higher Education, by staff of higher education establishments, public research organizations and research foundations, holding a habilitation to direct research;

2° By other personalities holding a doctorate, chosen for their scientific competence by the head of the institution, on the recommendation of the director of the doctoral school and after consultation with the research commission of the academic council or the equivalent body in the institution where the student is enrolled.

Provisional approval procedure: request to supervise a thesis without HDR or to co-supervise a thesis without HDR with a non-HDR co-supervisor

The file must include : 

  • Standard form with advice from laboratory management
  • The documents required byDoctoral School 
  • Candidate's full CV
  • Thesis proposal (4 pages maximum)
  • A short CV of the future doctoral student (2 pages maximum)
  • HDR Commission then Management Doctoral School
  • Doctoral School completes the standard form with the proposal made
  • All files are forwarded byDoctoral School to the Research Commission (CR). 
  • Opinion of the CR
  • Notification to candidate byDoctoral School (+lab management)
 

Simplified approval procedure: co-direction without HDR (50%) with an HDR co-director (50%)

This procedure is intended for members of 

USMB laboratories

ForDoctoral School CST, no specific steps are required on the part of the candidate. The following steps must be followed when applying for registration as a doctoral student:

  1. Letter from the Unit Director detailing his or her opinion, attached to the doctoral student's application file and uploaded to ADUM at the time of registration.
  2. Opinion of the Management ofDoctoral School CST.
  3. Authorization from the head of the establishment (formalized by the authorization to register for a thesis with the proposed co-directorships)
  4. Information from the Research Commission (via the Vice-President Research)

AtDoctoral School CST, the USMB grants a maximum of three accreditations over the course of a career, whatever the procedure: accreditation (thesis direction or co-direction with a non-HDR) or simplified accreditation (thesis co-direction with an HDR).
