Contents: produced by ProQuest, the Early English Books Online (EEBO) database offers digitized versions of all printed works (books, journals, tracts, almanacs, etc.) published between 1473 and 1700 in England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and the British North American colonies, as well as English-language works printed elsewhere at the same time.

Of the 125,000 documents in the corpus, 25,000 are digitized in text mode, making it possible to search for occurrences.

The documents in EEBO correspond to the titles listed in :

  • Pollard & Redgrave catalog (1475-1640 )
  • Wing's catalog (1641-1700)
  • all the "tracts" (pamphlets, books, newspapers, speeches to Parliament, etc.) in the Thomason collection (1640-1661) at the British Library
  • the Early English Books Tract Supplement, another collection of pamphlets, petitions, letters, almanacs, etc., mainly from the British Library.

The database includes primary sources from a wide range of disciplines, such as English literature, history, philosophy, linguistics, theology, music, the arts, education and science.
