Diplôme Universitaire Santé Nutrition Activités Physiques et Montagne (DU SNAPM) - Information and details

This DU provides you with up-to-date knowledge of nutritional requirements in relation to sporting practices and how to use physical activities to improve performance, health and well-being.
The first two skill blocks, focusing on nutrition and sport-health, enable you to :

  • better understand the needs of the people you manage and/or care for,
  • understand the specific nature and diversity of our customers,
  • and analyze their practice in greater detail.

The third block of skills enables you to transpose the knowledge acquired in the first 2 blocks to the specific context of mountain sports (performance and sport/health).

OBJECTIVES :

  • To provide the knowledge and tools needed to support and implement physical activity for a variety of audiences.
  • Master current nutritional recommendations for different populations. Take a critical look at diets and the role of nutrition in well-being and performance.
  • Understand how mountains (real or simulated altitude) can address concerns related to :
    - Training
    - well-being
    - Therapeutic tools (pathologies, aging...).

ORGANIZATION :

This academics includes 3 blocks of skills:

  • BLOCK 1: 1 week on nutrition
  • BLOCK 2: 1 week focused on "sport and health
  • BLOCK 3: 1 week focusing on the specific nature of physical activity in the mountains

RYTHM :

academics can be taken over 1 or 2 years. It is possible to follow one or more blocks of skills à la carte, (face-to-face or distance learning depending on the block) and/or to capitalize on them to obtain the DU over a maximum of 2 years.

COMPETENCY BLOCK 1: NUTRITIONAL BASICS OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY - 35 h

This block of academics provides candidates with fundamental knowledge of human nutrition. Starting from the body's average energy expenditure, quantitative and qualitative nutritional requirements are detailed for sedentary, active and sporting people.
A bioenergetic approach will be presented, making the link between cellular metabolism (including muscle contraction) and the fate of nutrients in the body. The specificities of certain populations, such as the elderly, in relation to sarcopenia, and of certain diets commonly used in the sporting world are also addressed. Finally, certain psychological pathologies linked to nutritional disorders will be presented.
Two practical half-days complete this academics block. These will enable you to analyze case studies and discover recipes for energy bars, sports drinks and recovery drinks.

COMPETENCY BLOCK 2: SPORT AND HEALTH - 36 h

This block enables you to understand and analyze the mechanisms involved in the body's sporting activities.
Combining this knowledge with the study of the physiopathology of certain chronic pathologies (diabetes, cardiovascular pathologies, cancer...) enables you to understand and analyze the benefits and risks of regular physical exercise in the context of prevention, but also during the development of these pathologies and/or during medical treatment.
Thematic days will enable you to deepen your knowledge of some of these pathologies. Mental health in relation to the socio-professional environment and the role of physical activity is an important theme these days, and will also be addressed. Lastly, we'll look at the legislative framework for supervising physical exercise and sports with specific target groups.

SKILL BLOCK 3: PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND MOUNTAIN SPECIFICS - 35 h

The first part of this module provides you with the essentials of recent knowledge concerning transient or prolonged life at altitude, and the strategies put in place by the body to adapt and combat the lack of oxygen that impairs its proper functioning, particularly during physical activity. How does the body adapt to altitude in the short, medium and long term (physiology, metabolism, cell biology, etc.)? Part of this course will enable you to understand and analyze the complex balance between the beneficial and deleterious effects of altitude training for athletes (endurance or team sports), and what equipment is currently available (hypoxic chamber, hypoxic tents, compression cuffs, etc.).
The mountains impose a number of special constraints, and you'll learn about maladaptations (acute mountain sickness, etc.) and traumatologies specific to physical activity in the mountains (basic data, advice to sportsmen and women, prevention, treatment). What are the recommendations in terms of exercise and mountain holidays for patients suffering from chronic illnesses, and can mountains and altitude be used as a therapeutic tool?
The growing popularity of outdoor activities, including trail-running and ultra-endurance, is attracting an increasingly diverse public to the mountains, in a variety of contexts (health, performance or simply pleasure-oriented). It is therefore important to recognize that today's and tomorrow's outdoor sports practices are generating significant activity in terms of innovation, development and marketing of equipment and services. It's up to mountain, PSA/APA and health professionals, who are called upon to advise or guide people wishing to go into the mountains and practice a physical activity, to fully understand the evolution of practice patterns and the various associated issues. Can physical activity and well-being contribute to the development of mountain tourism? An example from the mid-mountain resort of Les Saisies (Savoie).

Project / Application

During the final day of academics , which will take place in the resort of Les Saisies, trainees will be asked to develop a proposal for a support service or product/service in a context of their choice (public, location, calendar), taking into account the different elements covered in all the modules and their own sensitivity/background/professional project.
