Scribe

Scribe is a free, open-source tool for transcribing audio and video files into text.

A tool like this is useful for providing a text version of a media file (audio or video). The aim of this program is to provide a quick and simple tool for retrieving text and using it as a digital version.

This can be handy for quickly transcribing audio notes into writing, for example. Simply record yourself reading them aloud, then send your audio file to be transcribed into text format.

It is also possible to use this interface to create subtitles for a video, and then translate them to obtain a version in other languages. In this case, it is necessary to use a subtitle management tool to retrieve the transcribed subtitles and correct them (as they are not perfect). Most subtitling software then offers to translate them according to the timing identified by Scribe.
