Ortolang

Ortolang is a platform offering linguistic tools and resources for optimized processing of the French language.

Ortolang is a specialized language service that complements the general offering provided by TGIR Huma-Num (Very Large Research Infrastructure).

This is a networked infrastructure offering a repository of data (corpora, lexicons, dictionaries, etc.) and tools on the French language and its processing, which are clearly available and documented, with the aim of:

– enable research into the analysis, modeling, and automatic processing of our language to rise to the highest international level through genuine pooling of resources

– facilitate the use and transfer of resources and tools developed in public laboratories to industrial partners, particularly SMEs, which often cannot afford to develop such language processing resources and tools due to their high implementation costs

– promoting French and the languages of France by sharing the knowledge of our language accumulated by public laboratories

Functions

Data identification/preparation

– cataloging existing resources and tools through a set of standardized metadata

– Control and validation of resources and tools: support for authors on current international standards, norms, and recommendations: XML, TEI, LMF, MAF, and SYNAF.

– enrichment of resources and tools

Archiving

– storage, maintenance, and curation of resources and tools

– Long-term archiving, through the solution implemented by TGIR Huma-Num in conjunction with CINES

Distribution

– assistance and support for users and implementation of procedures enabling platform users to utilize shared resources and tools without having to worry about their geographical location and implementation

The ORTOLANG model incorporates the basic entities of the OAIS model, specifying the data correction/enrichment cycle made possible by intermediate archiving.
