Ortolang

Ortolang is a platform of linguistic tools and resources for optimized processing of the French language.

Ortolang is a specialized language service that complements the general offering of TGIR Huma-Num (Très Grande Infrastructure de Recherche).

It is a networked infrastructure offering a clearly available and documented reservoir of data (corpora, lexicons, dictionaries, etc.) and tools on the French language and its processing, with the aim of :

- enable research into the analysis, modeling and automatic processing of our language to reach the highest international level, through genuine mutualization.

- facilitate the use and transfer of resources and tools developed in public laboratories to industrial partners, in particular to SMEs, which often cannot afford to develop such language processing resources and tools because of the costs involved.

- promote French and the languages of France by sharing the knowledge of our language accumulated by public laboratories

Functions

Data identification/preparation

- cataloguing existing resources and tools using a set of standardized metadata

- control and validation of resources and tools: support for authors on current international standards and recommendations: XML, TEI, LMF, MAF and SYNAF

- enrichment of resources and tools

Archiving

- storage, maintenance and curation of resources and tools

- permanent archiving, using the solution developed by TGIR Huma-Num in conjunction with CINES

Broadcast

- help and support for users, and implementation of procedures enabling platform users to exploit shared resources and tools without having to worry about their geographical location and layout

The ORTOLANG model takes up the basic entities of the OAIS model, specifying the data correction/enrichment cycle made possible by intermediate archiving.
