Master's in Solar Energy: Engineering and Economics

The Master's degree in Solar Energy Engineering and Economics is an innovative program that prepares students to meet the current and future challenges of the energy transition. The master's degree is jointly developed by the Polytech Annecy-Chambéry engineering school, the Institut d'Administration des Entreprises (IAE Savoie Mont Blanc), and the Faculty of Law. It offers high-quality teaching and multidisciplinary projects that stimulate creativity and entrepreneurial skills.

The two-year program offers two tracks taught in English:

  • Energy for Solar Building and Cities, focused on engineering
  • Solar Energy: Law, Economics, and Management, with a focus on economics

Solar Academy, the university research school (EUR) of the University of Savoie Mont Blanc, is located on the Bourget-du-Lac campus, on the premises of INES (National Institute of Solar Energy) and next to the Polytech Annecy-Chambéry engineering school.

Its mission is to become a national and international leader in scientific research, engineering, business, economics, and law for a distributed, low-carbon production and consumption model. At the heart of its organization is a multidisciplinary approach to enable the large-scale use of solar energy resources. The challenge is to transform this potential into actual electricity production.

The Solar Academy combines practice and theory in the fields of solar and building physics, scientific computing, materials science, business, law, sociology of architecture, and urban planning.

Courses are taught in English by international experts and highly recognized partners from research institutions and industry, as well as by academic staff from the University of Savoie Mont Blanc. Disciplinary and international mobility, as well as immersion in an international research environment, are an integral part of the curriculum, providing added value to students in terms of training and research.

International mobility grants, prizes for the best projects, and scholarships awarded for excellent academic results are available.

  • An innovative introduction to engineering sciences
  • Solar energy, a rapidly growing sector of renewable energy
  • Energy efficiency in the building sector, which accounts for over 40% of global primary energy consumption
  • A unique multidisciplinary education

Master's degree in solar energy in continuing education

The Master's degree in Solar Energy is a continuing education program that prepares working professionals or those undergoing career change to meet the challenges of the energy transition. The master's degree has been developed jointly by the Polytech Annecy-Chambéry engineering school, the National Institute for Solar Energy (INES Training and Assessment), and the University Institute for Professional Training (IUFP) at the University of Savoie Mont Blanc.

The Master's program in Solar Energy has two main objectives:

  • Acquire the scientific, technical, economic, and legal knowledge necessary for the eco-design and implementation of energy-efficient buildings and for the professional mastery of solar thermal and photovoltaic renewable energy applications.
  •  Provide the keys and tools for energy transition in the building sector.

5 blocks of 3 weeks form:

  • to the energy performance of buildings
  • to tools for energy and environmental transition in buildings
  • solar thermal energy
  • solar photovoltaic energy
  • Project management in solar energy and building energy efficiency: legal and economic aspects
  • Energy efficiency in the building sector and solar energy, fast-growing sectors of the energy transition
  • Work-study contract possible
  • E-learning for acquiring prerequisites and upgrading candidates according to their original profile
  • Registration by skill blocks or for the entire cycle
  • Complementarity of contributors (professionals from the targeted sectors of activity, teacher-researchers, etc.)
  • Personalized support during project phases
  • Promotion limited to 12 participants
  • Possibility of obtaining a Master's degree through accreditation of prior learning

Master's Degree in Advanced Mechatronics

The Master's degree in Complex Systems Engineering offers a research-oriented, internationally-focused program called Advanced Mechatronics, taught in English. At the intersection of the physical and digital worlds, mechatronics is a process that integrates—in synergy—several sciences and skills (in electronics, mechanics, automation, and computer science). This makes it possible to imagine and design products and systems offering increased or improved functionality. It is therefore necessary to place the design of the product or system within its overall life cycle and within a cooperative interdisciplinary approach.

The objective is to enable students to imagine, design, implement, and operate a mechatronic system or product within the framework of research or research and development projects, and to prepare them for doctoral studies.

Graduates can pursue doctoral studies, work as senior executives in public or private R&D centers, and hold high-level technical and scientific positions in specialized design offices.

Master's students develop the skills needed to meet the requirements of a multidisciplinary mechatronics project and familiarize themselves with the demands of research work through hybrid learning.

Three key skills are developed during the program through supervised sessions, online courses, self-study, and project- and problem-based learning:

■ Define and solve research problems
■ Manage a (research) project
■ Contribute to the design and implementation of a mechatronic system.

The master's program is primarily based on the laboratory SYMME laboratory, but also on the activities of the two other laboratories at Polytech Annecy-Chambéry LISTIC and LOCIE.

Given its interdisciplinary nature, its purpose, and its teaching methods (with a strong emphasis on projects), other laboratories at the University of Savoie Mont Blanc may be involved, such as the LAPP and the LIBM.

International mobility grants, prizes for the best projects, and scholarships awarded for excellent academic results are available.

Master's Degree in Business Management and Administration

The master's degree is developed in partnership with the Polytech Annecy-Chambéry engineering school andIAE Savoie Mont Blanc. Students thus obtain a master's degree in addition to their engineering degree.

Future engineers enrich their professional skills with managerial skills through accounting, financial, legal, economic, and human approaches to business.

The Master's in Business Management and Administration prepares students for senior management positions. Companies are looking for managers who, building on strong initial skills, are capable of leading a business in all its human, technical, and managerial dimensions.

Resolutely action-oriented, the program focuses on acquiring operational expertise, tools, and methods through courses, practical seminars, and real-world experience in the form of supervised projects or internships.
