HDR Diploma
The highest university qualification, the Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (HDR), is a national higher education diploma - defined by the decree of November 23, 1988 - that can be obtained after a doctorate.
- Becoming thesis director (without HDR commission approval)
- Apply for a position as University Professor
- Reporter for HDR juries
- Become an HDR jury member
The HDR title is also important for applying for research director positions (CNRS, INRIA, etc.).
La candidature à l’habilitation à diriger des recherches (HDR) de l’université Savoie Mont Blanc est ouverte à tous les candidats titulaires d’un doctorat, externes comme internes à l’université Savoie Mont Blanc.
L’École Doctorale Sciences Ingénierie Environnement (ED SIE) met en place une procédure de demande d’inscription à l’HDR qui a pour but de vérifier les prérequis à l’obtention du diplôme.
L’évaluation de la demande d’inscription de la candidate ou du candidat est collégiale et soumise à l’examen de la commission HDR qui se réunit 5 fois par année académique.

Prerequisites for the HDR diploma
Hold a doctorate degree
or
Hold a doctor's degree entitling them to practice medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine, and a post-graduate diploma (DEA) or research master's degree.
or
Have a degree or experience equivalent to a doctorate.

The application file includes :
- Candidate's curriculum vitae
- Une synthèse de ses activités d’enseignement, de recherche et de ses responsabilités administratives
- A one-page summary of his career
A titre indicatif, ce dossier est constitué d’une vingtaine de pages environ, le détail de ce dossier est présenté dans le document ‘Procédure de l’inscription à la soutenance’.
Il est fortement recommandé de contacter la présidente ou le président de la commission HDR du laboratoire qui veillera à ce que le dossier de demande d’inscription contienne tous les éléments nécessaires à l’évaluation de la demande
Application assessment criteria
L’HDR étant le diplôme autorisant à postuler aux fonctions de Professeur des Universités, les critères d’évaluation retenus sont ajustés sur ceux qui prévalaient à la qualification aux fonctions de Professeur par le CNU.

Après avis favorable de la Commission HDR de l’École Doctorale SIE et validation du Collège Doctoral, vous pourrez procéder à votre inscription et à l’organisation de votre soutenance. La validité de cette autorisation à s’inscrire est de deux ans.
Planning the stages of your presentation
The timetable below summarizes the various stages to be respected for your presentation. It is essential to anticipate these stages in order to be able to respect this timetable.
- Inscription après avis favorable de la Commission HDR de l’Ecole Doctorale de SIE et validation du Collège Doctoral.
- Preparing the application file.
- Withdrawal of the "proposal for rapporteurs" and "proposal for jury" forms, as well as the "summary of work" form.
Submission to the Doctoral College (DDRV) to the rapporteurs.
Submission of a jury proposal to the Doctoral College (DDRV).
Le jury doit refléter la complémentarité des disciplines concernées par les travaux du candidat. Dans la mesure du possible, il comprend :
- 5 membres minimum avec :
- 3 rapporteurs dont au moins 2 HDR et au moins 2 extérieurs à l’USMB ou étrangers.
- 100% HDR (sauf étrangers après équivalence)
- 50% extérieurs à l’USMB
- 50% PR / DR (pas IR, voir arrêté de 1992)
- 40% minimum d’un même sexe (mais pas obligatoire dans l’arrêté)
- Le Président doit être un PR de préférence de l’USMB ou DR d’un labo USMB.
En outre, il est recommandé de former un JURY composé d’au moins 4 membres afin d’éviter tout ajournement en cas d’absence d’un membre du jury lors de la soutenance.
Le candidat adresse un exemplaire de son dossier de candidature à chaque membre du jury.
Le Collège Doctoral transmet une copie des rapports établis sur les travaux à chaque membre du jury et au candidat.

This information is distributed by the Collège Doctoral before the oral presentation.
- The minutes of the defense and the defense report are sent to the Doctoral College (DDRV).
- Submission of a final copy of the application to the Doctoral College (DDRV) for transmission to the university libraries of theUniversité Savoie Mont Blanc.
- The Collège Doctoral sends the student a certificate of successful completion, together with a copy of the examination report and the examination report.
