Film conference on "Arrival" - Science fiction and human futures

February 7 / 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Free

In partnership with Ciné Malraux, Anaïs Guilet and Sylvain Santi, lecturers and researchers in the USMB literature department, invite you to an evening film-conference organized as part of the "Penser avec la fiction" (Thinking with fiction) project.

In conjunction with Denis Villeneuve's film "Arrival (First Contact)", this ciné-conférence invites you to discuss science fiction and the future of mankind. It begins with a lecture (at 7pm) by Helene Machinal, Professor of English Studies at Renne University, who will show that science fiction allows us to envisage possible futures for human beings and their environment, and that it questions the definition of the human being through confrontation with others and a reflection on time. The session continues with the screening of Arrival (First Contact) at 8:30pm.

See you on Wednesday, February 7 at 7pm at Ciné-Malraux.

A film-conference reserved exclusively for USMB students and pupils from the Institut de academics en Soins Infirmiers (IFSI) in Chambéry and Annecy. Funded by the Contribution à la vie étudiante et de campus (CVEC).

WHAT IS THINKING WITH FICTION?

"Thinking with fiction" is a series of 4 film lectures offered throughout the academic year. These film lectures provide an opportunity to develop your cinematographic culture, your critical mind and your awareness of the culture of the image, by learning about the discourses that can be held on and from a film.

The program can be built around a director, an aesthetic movement, a thematic issue or a historical period. The film screening is followed by a debate and/or preceded by a lecture given by LLSH teachers or specialists.

This project is led by AnaĂŻs Guilet and Sylvain Santi, members of the LLSETI laboratory (Langages, LittĂ©ratures, SociĂ©tĂ©s, Études TransfrontaliĂšres et Internationales) at USMB.
