[CANCELLED] - Feminist self-defense workshop - Annecy Campus

October 18, 2023 / 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

The USMB Student Health Service, in partnership with the SISTA association (feminist self-defense and energy practices association), is offering a self-defense workshop for all USMB students.

The aim of these workshops, financed by the Contribution Vie Etudiante et de Campus (CVEC), is to share as many tools as possible to boost self-esteem, become aware of one's own strength, and prevent violence. Ideally, so that it doesn't happen in the first place, and/or so that you know how to react to protect yourself and stop a situation, in a way that suits you.

The workshop will take place Wednesday October 18, from 5:30 to 8:30 pm in room H242 of the Annecy IUT.. Places are limited, so register early!

HOW A WORKSHOP WORKS

Feminist self-defense is expressed in 4 interwoven components: mental, emotional, verbal and physical. The workshop is open to both cis and trans women (open to cis and trans women) and takes place in an atmosphere of trust, respect, confidentiality and safety.

During a self-defense course or workshop, participants learn to recognize their own limits and to set them clearly, so as to be able to intervene as early as possible when these limits are transgressed. Through games, exercises and role-playing situations, we work on the implementation of prevention strategies, the cohesion between verbal and non-verbal language, and the learning of various verbal self-defense techniques.

The SISTA association also offers protection and physical defense techniques: disengagement and dissuasion techniques, incapacitating blows, and addresses this issue both theoretically and practically (by repeating the movements in the air, then on striking rackets). A visualization technique known as "mental training" will also be covered, enabling previous skills to be integrated mentally so that they become reflexes.

"Moments of discussion enable participants to exchange opinions and experiences and find support. Throughout the workshop, systemic subjects such as gendered socialization, the patriarchal system, our beliefs and resistances are addressed in a transversal way... and we thus try to make their oppressive nature visible." explains the SISTA association.
