2nd International Colloquium on Intercultural Clinical Psychology - "The reception and future of unaccompanied minors: what support for what projects?

april 4, 2019 08:20 - April 5th 2019 18:00

The Laboratoire Interuniversitaire de Psychologie - Personnalité, Cognition, Changement Social (LIP/PC2S) atUniversité Savoie Mont Blanc is organizing the 2nd international colloquium on intercultural clinical psychology "Accueil et devenir des Mineurs Non Accompagnés Quels accompagnments pour quels projets?" on April 4 and 5, 2019.

The symposium will run from 8.20am to 6pm in Building 19 on the Jacob-Bellecombette campus.

About the symposium

Unaccompanied minors (UAMs) are highly vulnerable and likely to develop mental health problems, due to their exposure to numerous risks before departure, during migration and on arrival. This vulnerability may be compounded by the fact that their migration trajectories are part of a fragile developmental stage during which the academics identity may be impacted by the effects of the traumatic experiences they have undergone, as well as by the daily stress factors they encounter on each of their journeys. Added to this is the fact that, in their host country, they have to adapt to a new culture with limited resources and no certainty about their future there. The acculturative stress resulting from immersion in a new place, a new frame of reference, could weaken the narcissistic foundations of these young people and/or reactivate and even amplify post-traumatic stress.

The aim of this symposium is manifold. On the one hand, the aim is to review the nature of this psychological vulnerability, and attempt to identify the individual and collective resources that support the ego against pathological collapse. Secondly, we will take stock of the care/accompaniment offered to these UFMs, and discuss their relevance to the young people's migration plans. Lastly, we will attempt to reassess the mental health of these young people, and their capacity for resilience once they have reached adulthood, i.e. once they have left the child protection system.

Speakers

These days will be led by teacher-researchers, clinicians and social workers involved in the field of child protection and confronted with the problems of UFMs. They are aimed at psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, educationalists and all professionals or volunteers concerned by this type of problem. Thank you in advance for your interest!
