ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
Since Ancient Greece, mathematics has played the role of a model science because of the relationship it has with truth. Mathematics before the classical Greek period, essentially Mesopotamian, did not have such a relationship with the notion of truth. We can go so far as to say that the emergence of the notion of truth among the Greeks made mathematical propositions necessary, adding in return reality to mathematical objects. A mathematical word that constitutes our idea of the true is the paradigm, more or less well thought out, on which we have lived pleasantly for 25 centuries. Through accessible mathematical examples, we will question this link perceived as natural: what is this true saying of mathematics? Does it have a history? On which objects does it concern? We will then see that the great evolutions of mathematical logic in the 20th century, and that of theories of language, impose a complete revision of our relationship to the concept of truth.
