The conference "La francophonie dans l'enseignement du français langue étrangère: la belle absente?", presented by Dominique Lagorgette, university professor at the Langages, Littératures, Sociétés, Études Transfrontalières et Internationales (LLSETI) laboratory, UFR Lettres, Langues et Sciences Humaines, will take place on Tuesday March 26, 2019 at 6:30pm at the Maison Nelson Mandela in Annemasse.

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

Does teaching French as a foreign language today mean teaching only the written, literary French of France, and particularly of Paris, or does it also mean integrating other ways of speaking French, from Montreal to Cotonou to Toulouse? Does the French language belong to France or to all French speakers? Is there a place for colloquial French? Teaching French to non-French speakers (Français Langue Étrangère - FLE) raises two crucial questions, which will be our starting points: why is there such a constant hegemony of so-called "standard" French in FLE didactics, even if it's not the only one?
didactics, even in French-speaking countries? And how can geographical and/or social variation really be introduced into FLE lessons? We'll retrace the history of the institutionalization of this norm and suggest a few avenues for "panfrancophone" FLE teaching.
