[CANCELLED] Amphis Pour Tous - Is lake runoff a climate threat?

June 11, 2020 6:30 pm - June 11, 2020 7:30 PM

Following the government's announcement on Saturday, March 14, 2020 that the Coronovirus (COVID-19) epidemic has been downgraded to stage 3, the upcoming "Amphis pour Tous" conferences have been cancelled for the coming months and postponed until next season.

The conference "Le souffle des lacs, une menace climatique?", presented by Étienne Dambrine, INRA research director at the Centre Alpin de Recherche sur les Réseaux Trophiques des Écosystèmes Limniques (CARRTEL), UFR Sciences et Montagne, will take place on Thursday, June 11, 2020 at 6:30pm at the Pôle culturel de la Visitation in Thonon-les-Bains.

It will also be held on Thursday June 18, 2020 at 7pm in Faverges-Seythenex.

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

Forests are often referred to as the lungs of the planet. While the metaphor is instructive, it is scientifically false: unlike lungs, forests absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen. What about lakes? Measurements show that, like animals, most lakes suck in oxygen and blow out carbon dioxide. You could say that lakes sometimes yawn or belch, since they can also emit methane! The breath of lakes is strongly influenced by their terrestrial environment, which conditions their diet, as well as their management by man.
