Amphis Pour Tous - ULTIMA PATAGONIA: caves & chasms on the islands of marble glaciers

october 10, 2019 6:00 PM - october 10, 2019 19:00

The conference "ULTIMA PATAGONIA : grottes & gouffres des îles aux glaciers de marbre", presented by Stéphane Jaillet, CNRS research engineer at the Laboratoire Environnements, Dynamiques et Territoires de la Montagne (EDYTEM), UFR Sciences et Montagne, will take place on Thursday, October 10, 2019 at 6pm at La Turbine in Annecy.

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

At 50° south latitude, the Patagonian karst, the southernmost on the planet, offers spectacular scenery and exceptional underground caves. For over 20 years, a series of expeditions in extreme climatic conditions has uncovered incredible morphologies, explored Chile's largest chasms and discovered the caves
of the Kawésqar Indians, the "nomads of the sea". As a result of this research, the island of Madre de Dios, the largest of these marble-glaciated islands, is now a candidate for Unesco World Heritage listing.
