Café science - Artificial intelligence

March 17, 2022 8:00 PM

The café-science on "artificial intelligence", will take place on Thursday March 17, 2022 at 8pm at the MJC in Chambéry.

Admission is free.

ABOUT THE DEBATE

Defined as "the set of theories and techniques used to create machines capable of simulating human intelligence", artificial intelligence (AI) is now ubiquitous in our daily lives. Robotics, automobiles, social networks, healthcare, e-commerce, GPS navigation, games, etc. AI has entered almost every sector of activity.

Although the idea of creating machines that imitate human behavior has been developing rapidly in recent years, it is a very old one. From automata to Turing's abstract machines and idea-generating mechanisms, many inventions over the centuries have stemmed from this thinking, and the first AI devices are their legacy.

With today's advances, machines are replacing humans in more and more tasks. What benefits can AI bring? But what are its limits? Should we fear some of its consequences? Will AI technologies give rise to new ethical and legal issues?

And finally, what is the meaning of "intelligence" for machines? To what extent can they be "intelligent"?
