ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

Housing is at the heart of the sustainable development issue. Along with mobility, it accounts for more than two-thirds of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions responsible for global warming. It is often the first item of household expenditure. Rising housing prices are a factor of exclusion and a source of imbalance in our societies, particularly in areas where
in areas of high land pressure such as Savoie and Haute-Savoie, and especially in the Greater Geneva area.

Today, there's another way to live: cooperative housing. It's all about building better, cheaper housing that's adapted to the changing needs of a sustainable lifestyle. Between the traditional rental and ownership models, the residents' cooperative could offer the "best of both worlds", enabling innovation without speculation. It symbolizes a 3rd way of accessing housing, with virtues and characteristics observed in Switzerland, where it is highly developed, or in France, where it is beginning to emerge.
