Café sciences - Will we all be obese tomorrow?

December 9, 2021 8:00 PM

The café-science "Demain, tous obèses? "will take place on Thursday December 9 at 8pm at the MJC in Chambéry.

Admission is free. A valid health pass will be required to access the session.

ABOUT THE SESSION

Obesity is a cause for concern. The proportion of obese adults in France has doubled since 1997 and has stabilized in recent years. Currently, 17% of French people are obese.

This "epidemic" has major consequences for the health of those concerned, with numerous complications: type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, sleep apnea, osteoarthritis of the hips and knees, hepatic steatosis, certain cancers...

It also has consequences for their social integration: they are readily attributed with an inability to manage their appetite, a lack of willpower which would not augur well in certain cases (hiring, responsibilities...); material problems linked to obesity are not taken into account in the public space (chairs, armchairs...) We can speak of "grossophobia".

To develop obesity, junk food and a sedentary lifestyle combine with multiple causes: genetic and epigenetic, environmental, socio-economic...

How can we get out of this health impasse? Diet, medication, behavioral therapy, sports, surgery. Come and discuss all these questions.
