TheOrchestre des Pays de Savoie returns toUniversité Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB) for a new season. The second concert will take place on Thursday, January 24, 2019 on the Annecy campus, from 12pm to 1pm, in the hall of the Annecy IUT. Its theme will be "Un léger brin de surprise", and it will be conducted by Nicolas Chalvin.
ABOUT THE CONCERT
The three works on this program remind us just how misleading titles can be in classical music. Humor, moreover, is a subtle art which, in a certain number of situations, depending on the keys it implies, first of all allows us to distance ourselves. Mozart's musical jest, for example, is a satirical work that is far from youthful, and today requires a thorough knowledge of the flaws in the classical canons that the composer denounced in some of his colleagues. Haydn's title, added a posteriori like many others, refers less to a pedagogical dimension, as we might think today, than to the severity or rigidity that could be suggested by the master's punishment. Conversely, the subtitle of Beethoven's 11th quartet, "Quartetto serioso", does not suggest the epic inspiration of the piece, bathed in the project the composer was carrying out at the time on Egmont, Goethe's hero.
