Comparative political life conference - "Origins, foundations and recent developments in pro-animal activism".

This year, theUniversité Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB) and the Faculty of Law are hosting the ninth cycle of "Conférences de Vie Politique Comparée", a series of lectures by researchers in the social sciences and humanities whose work sheds light on major contemporary socio-political issues.

The fourth conference of the cycle will take place on Thursday March 12, 2020 from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm, in amphitheater 3 on the Jacob-Bellecombette campus, with Jérôme Michalon, sociologist and CNRS researcher at the Triangle-ENS Lyon Laboratory. He will be speaking on the theme: "Origins, foundations and recent developments in pro-animal activism".

About Jérôme Michalon

For many years, he has been working on human/animal relations, animal care, animal protection and animal activism. Author of numerous publications on these themes, he is notably the author of Panser avec les animaux. Sociologie du soin par le contact animalier (Presses des Mines Paris Tec, 2014), a work following on from his thesis, as well as the rich article on the development of Animal Studies of Anglo-Saxon origin: "Cause animale et sciences sociales. From anthropocentrism to zoocentrism" (available on laviedesidees.fr). He will be speaking to us on the origins, foundations and recent evolution of pro-animal activism: From animal protection to animal liberation: a socio-historical panorama of commitment to animals.
