The University of Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB) and the Faculty of Law are hosting the ninth cycle of "Comparative Political Life Conferences" this year, welcoming researchers in the social sciences and humanities whose work sheds light on major contemporary socio-political issues.
The fourth lecture in the series will take place on Thursday, March 12, 2020, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., in Lecture Hall 3 on the Jacob-Bellecombette campus, with Jérôme Michalon, sociologist and researcher at the CNRS at the Triangle-ENS Lyon Laboratory. He will speak on the topic: "Origins, foundations, and recent developments in pro-animal activism."
About Jérôme Michalon
He has been working for several years on human/animal relations, animal-assisted therapy, animal protection, and animal activism. Author of numerous publications on these topics, he has notably written Panser avec les animaux. Sociologie du soin par le contact animalier (Presses des Mines Paris Tec, 2014), a book that follows on from his thesis, as well as a rich article on the development of Animal Studies of Anglo-Saxon origin: "Cause animale et sciences sociales. From Anthropocentrism to Zoocentrism" (available on the laviedesidees.fr website). He will speak to us on the theme of the origins, foundations, and recent developments of pro-animal activism: From Protection to Animal Liberation: A Socio-Historical Overview of Commitment to Animals.
