652 faculty members, researchers, 317 doctoral students, 40% of whom are international, 143 technical and administrative staff supporting research, 82 directors and research fellows (CNRS, INRAE, ARD), HRS4R (Human Resources for Research) certification, 18 research units, including 11 joint research units with the CNRS, INRAE, and IRD, 5 research federations, 10 doctoral schools, including 2 specific to the USMB: the doctoral school of Science, Engineering, Environment (SIE), and the doctoral school Cultures, Societies, Territories (CST).

International rankings

Ranked in Shanghai for the seventh consecutive year thanks to the excellence of its research, the University of Savoie Mont Blanc has confirmed its place among the best and has been included in the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) international ranking for 2025. In the same year, USMB also appears in THE's new international ranking, theInterdisciplinary Science Rankings 2025, and ranks in the top third of the world's universities appearing in this ranking. The university appears in the following international rankings: Times Higher Education (THE) ranking, Shanghai Ranking (for the past seven years), and IPERU ranking (joint second behind ENS Paris in the category of multidisciplinary institutions outside the health sector, in terms of impact index).
