Within the university, executive authority and decision-making authority are separate. Executive authority is exercised by the university president. Decision-making authority is exercised by the Board of Trustees. The Academic Council primarily serves in an advisory capacity.
THE PRESIDENT
The president is elected by an absolute majority of the Board of Trustees for a four-year term, renewable once. He or she heads the institution and is responsible for its revenues and expenditures. He or she chairs the university’s two governing bodies and has authority over all the institution’s staff. He appoints examination committees, is responsible for maintaining order, and represents the university in dealings with third parties and in legal proceedings.
THE PRESIDENTIAL TEAM
The presidential team consists of the vice presidents (elected upon the president’s recommendation), the special advisors, the chief administrative officer, and the accounting officer.
THE OFFICE
It consists of the president, the vice-chair of the board of directors and first vice-president, the vice-chair of the board of directors, the vice-president for education, the vice-president for research, and the seven deans of the academic units, schools, and institutes.
It assists the president in the day-to-day management of the institution. It meets once a week.
