ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
The aim of science is to study the world around us and to reach some form of truth. To achieve this, it uses what is known as the "scientific method". This notion is taught at school, and is also put forward by scientists themselves to justify their approach. However, it is not without its interesting and sometimes thorny subtleties, which we need to understand if we are to be able to compare scientific discourse with the other discourses with which we are confronted as citizens (opinions and beliefs, in particular).
Examples of how "the" scientific method has been applied at different times and in different disciplines will illustrate the diversity of situations covered by this term.
