State of compliance

The Université Savoie Mont Blanc website – www.univ-smb.fr – is partially compliant with the General Accessibility Improvement Framework (RGAA) version 4.1.2 due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.
The communications and disability mission management team is working to continuously improve the accessibility of its content, with the aim of exceeding a score of 80%.

We have already worked on making essential content available in text format, ensuring functional keyboard navigation, prioritizing mobile readability, and enabling users to go directly to content and change contrast settings.

Test results

The compliance audit conducted by the USMB communications department in November 2025 reveals that the site is 69% compliant with RGAA version 4.1.2.

Inaccessible content

The content listed below is not accessible for the following reasons:

  • Blue text on white background insufficient
  • Linked image without alternative text, empty button
  • Redundant links, noscript tags
  • Improve title hierarchy

  • A few informative images without alt or alt="" incorrect
  • Insufficient contrasts
  • Videos without systematic subtitles
  • Several redundant links ("learn more")
  • Level jump in titles
  • Custom text spacing: some secondary blocks lose some of their secondary content when spacing is increased significantly, but hold up well when zooming in.
  • Some focus shots are not visible
  • Presentation videos do not have text transcripts, audio descriptions, or subtitles.
  • Navigation via skip links is not optimal and should be improved.
  • Images that convey information have no alternative or relevant alternative.
  • Images conveying complex information require detailed descriptions.
  • Links do not have explicit titles
  • JavaScript features are not compatible with assistive technologies.
  • Some sequences of elements are not structured with lists.
  • Some pages have problems with tab navigation.
  • Touch targets less than 24 px wide

Third-party content not subject to accessibility requirements

Summary results by RGAA criterion (extract from audits)

The summary below covers the main themes of the RGAA and the status observed based on automated audits (AIM/WAVE) and manual tests provided (keyboard navigation, VoiceOver). Each section indicates a simple status (OK / Partially compliant / To be corrected / To be verified) and practical comments.

1. Images (criteria 1.1 → 1.9)

Status: To be corrected

  • Findings: image linked without alt, alt empty or redundant, several informative images with missing or irrelevant descriptions.
  • Details: cases detected in the audit (linked image missing alternative text, null/empty alternative text, redundant alternative text). See section 4.1.
  • Recommendations: add alt relevant for informative images, alt="" For decorative images, provide detailed descriptions (longdesc or links) when necessary, and check the associated captions.

2. Frameworks (criteria 2.1 → 2.2)

Status: To be verified

  • Findings: no explicit mention in the automated report; verify the use of<fieldset> and aria-labelledby for grouping frames (forms, widgets).
  • Recommendations: ensure a relevant executive title for each role="group" or fieldset used.

3. Colors (criteria 3.1 → 3.3)

Status: To be corrected

  • Findings: 5 contrast errors identified (very low contrast).
  • Recommendations: correct the color schemes of text and interactive components to meet at least the RGAA thresholds (4.5:1 for normal text), avoid conveying information solely through color.

4. Multimedia (criteria 4.1 → 4.13)

Status: To be corrected

  • Findings: presentation videos without transcripts, subtitles, or audio description (mentioned in the initial audit provided for the source site).
  • Recommendations: Provide text transcripts, synchronized captions for time-based media, audio description for rich content where necessary, and keyboard controls for players.

5. Tables (criteria 5.1 → 5.8)

Status: To be verified

  • Findings: no complex tables explicitly identified by the audit. To be verified whether data tables exist in the audited pages.
  • Recommendations: add summary for complex tables, use correctly <th scope> or headers if necessary.

6. Links (criteria 6.1 → 6.2)

Status: Partially compliant → To be corrected

  • Findings: several redundant links detected; some links not explicit.
  • Recommendations: make each link explicit (meaningful text), avoid unnecessary repetition, and harmonize titles.

7. Scripts (criteria 7.1 → 7.5)

Status: To be corrected

  • Findings: numerous elements <noscript> and dynamic behaviors with ARIA/tabindex to be verified. Status messages and context changes may be rendered incorrectly.
  • Recommendations: ensure functional alternatives without JS when necessary, ensure that context changes are announced via aria-live or adapted ARIA signals, and that all controls are operable via keyboard.

8. Mandatory elements (criteria 8.1 → 8.10)

Status: Partially compliant

  • Findings: document language detected (OK), presence of a <title> (to be confirmed on all pages), but Hn structure sometimes incorrect (skipped titles).
  • Recommendations: verify the presence of a single <h1> per page, relevant titles, HTML validation according to DOCTYPE, and consistent language declaration.

9. Structuring of information (criteria 9.1 → 9.4)

Status: To be corrected

  • Findings: missing title levels, lists, and citations to be verified.
  • Recommendations: reestablish a logical hierarchy of headings, ensure that lists are <ul>/<ol> and not visual formatting.

10. Presentation of information (criteria 10.1 → 10.14)

Status: To be corrected

  • Findings: focus sometimes not visible (10.7), additional content visible only via CSS not accessible via keyboard (10.14), some content loses elements with text spacing (10.12), content revealed on hover not accessible via keyboard (10.13).
  • Recommendations: make the focus clearly visible, make all keyboard-accessible content interactive, avoid CSS-only dependencies for critical information.

11. Forms (criteria 11.1 → 11.13)

Status: To be corrected

  • Findings: incomplete labeling for certain fields, button without label (empty button), consistency of labels to be checked (11.1, 11.2, 11.3).
  • Recommendations: add <label for> or aria-label/aria-labelledby For each field, group similar fields together and provide captions for the fieldsets.

12. Navigation (criteria 12.1 → 12.11)

Status: Partially compliant

  • Findings: tabulation order is mostly consistent (keyboard navigation estimated at 90%), but some issues remain to be corrected: avoidance areas, skip links, uncontrollable keyboard shortcuts, additional content that cannot be accessed (12.6, 12.7, 12.10, 12.11).
  • Recommendations: finalize the tab order, confirm that the skip link is working properly, document and enable the deactivation of single-key shortcuts.

13. Consultation (criteria 13.1 → 13.12)

Status: To be verified / Partially compliant

  • Findings: no widespread reports of downloaded documents being inaccessible in the summary audit; check the accessibility of PDFs and office documents.
  • Recommendations: Provide accessible versions of downloadable documents, ensure that orientation and controls are compatible, and that visual effects are controllable.
