The mission of the University of Savoie Mont-Blanc (USMB) is to support European projects. To achieve this goal, the Europe Unit was established.
Europe-BOOST Unit
Its role is to provide enhanced support to female and male faculty researchers, as well as other faculty members, in setting up and monitoring European projects, particularly those under the Horizon Europe and Erasmus+ programs. The Europe Unit supports more than 40 European projects each year.
The Europe Unit is funded for a period of 10 years, beginning July 1, 2023, as part of the BOOST project, which was selected through the ANR ASDESR call for proposals. The CNRS is a partner in the project, using its own funds, and the USMB is receiving a grant of €1,260,000.
Responsibilities and Role of the Europe Unit
The unit has three main missions :
- Inform, raise awareness, and provide guidance : This mission includes monitoring and disseminating calls for proposals, helping to turn an idea into a project, facilitating integration into European networks, and identifying potential partners. To this end, the unit offers specific informational webinars on calls for proposals under the Horizon Europe and Erasmus+ programs, as well as training workshops.
- Providing support for project development : The unit provides support at every stage, ensuring compliance with eligibility criteria and analyzing calls for proposals. It also assists project partners with administrative and financial matters, provides guidance on structure and methodology, drafts the non-scientific sections of the project, prepares the budget, and submits the project through the relevant submission platforms. The unit can be contacted well in advance of the project’s implementation to best anticipate the various stages and establish a schedule of meetings with the project leaders.
- Monitor selected projects : The unit provides support in setting up and monitoring the project. It handles funding agreements and, where applicable, reimbursement agreements, while maintaining contact with the funding agencies. To ensure smooth management, the unit organizes internal project kickoff meetings, conducts regular progress reviews, and provides updates on changes to the funders’ guidelines. It also advises support departments on reporting and audits.
