Pôle Enquête seminar with Arnaud Grandjacques

November 29, 2018 1:00 PM - November 29, 2018 19:00

The first session of the Pôle Enquête seminar of the Langages, Littératures, Sociétés, Études Transfrontalières et Internationales (LLSETI) laboratory for this 2018 - 2019 year will take place on Thursday November 29 from 1pm to 4pm in the Pôle Enquête room (Building 10) on the Jacob-Bellecombette campus.

At this session, Arnaud Grandjacques, associate member of the LLSETI laboratory, will talk on "Metaphor in sociology: milestones in the study of a foreign body".

This paper examines the reputation of metaphor in the world of social sciences, and sociology in particular, given that the latter is intended to be non-metaphorical. As a result, the very presence of metaphor(s) activates a questioning of the scientific legitimacy of the statement, despite the fact that thinking about the social, observed as a whole, does not appear to be devoid of them. Under these conditions, we need to determine whether metaphor has a place in the discourse on the social, and whether it can play a role in the process of sociological inquiry.
