The lecture "Bio-inspired analysis of cities to improve their metabolic disorders," presented by Christophe MENEZO, University Professor, Laboratory for Design Optimization and Environmental Engineering (LOCIE), Polytech Annecy-Chambéry, will take place on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at 6:30 p.m. at the Albertville media library.
It will also be held:
- Friday, December 3 at 7 p.m. in Faverges-Seythenex
- Thursday, January 13, 2022, at 6 p.m. in Annecy
- Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at 6 p.m. in Chambéry
The conferences will take place subject to the health conditions related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic and in compliance with the safety guidelines in force at the venue hosting the event.
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
The environmental footprint of urban areas is high. It accounts for 60 to 80% of global energy consumption, 75% of natural resource consumption, and is responsible for 75% of greenhouse gas emissions. Urban metabolism is a bio-inspired approach that refers to the internal processes by which natural systems, regardless of their scale (from proteins to ecosystems), maintain a continuous exchange of matter and energy with their environment. This allows them to optimize their functioning, growth, and reproduction as part of an adaptation strategy. Natural systems, although dissipative, organize themselves in such a way as to optimize robustness and efficiency by capturing or reusing what is generated by their metabolic activity. The heavy environmental footprint of a city is precisely the result of a disturbance in its metabolism! Can the knowledge acquired about natural systems provide solutions for the urban worlds of tomorrow?
