ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

For residents, tourism can become a source of tension when its growth spirals out of control, despite the economic vitality it brings to their region. For several years now, research on tourism impacts has focused on analyzing the consequences of overtourism on the affected regions and populations.
This conference presents the key findings from research on the subject and supplements them with a recent study conducted among residents of the Annecy region. At what point(s) does tourism cause tensions? What are the different levels of perceived positive and negative impacts? What strategies do residents develop in response to tourism pressure? We will identify how the local tourism system may be overburdened and what improvements can be considered.
